The Australian: "Democrats may return amid Labor turmoil"
INTERNAL divisions in the federal Labor government could spark a resurgence in the Australian Democrats, the party’s national president says.
Darren Churchill said the party had been contacted in recent weeks by a number of voters who wanted to see the Democrat MPs back in the parliament.
“Labor’s infighting has guaranteed that they cannot be re-elected in 2013, no matter who their leader is at that time,” Mr Churchill said in a statement.
But he said a number of Liberal supporters could not bring themselves to vote for Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.
“With the left-leaning Greens not an alternative for those voters, the Democrats are back in the picture,” Mr Churchill said.
